Golf in Poland: Olsztyn Golf Course
{short description of image}

Golf in Poland? Yes, I was most surprised when I recently hired a chalet in the Mazury region of Poland, near the town of Olsztyn (some 200km north east of Warsaw), to find that within 2km of the chalet that there was a road sign indicating someone driving a golf ball!!!

So, we followed the sign and low and behold we found this lovely little golf course: "Olsztynski Klub Golfowy". At present, the course has 14 holes and one has to play the second, third, seventh and eighth twice to complete 18 holes.

Having never thought about golf in Poland, I had come on holiday without golf clubs, but this was no problem as I could hire clubs, and a trolley and bought balls and tees. I was told at the time of my visit, there were only 5 golf courses in Poland.

The course may not be that long (4,065 metres) but it has quite a few water hazards, all at the most awkward spots!! I found it quite challenging and although they don't have any automatic watering of the greens, the area probably gets enough rain to keep the green reasonable.

It is a shame that so few people are taking advantage of this delightful facility. Perhaps, like me, they are not aware that there is Golf in Poland!

Olsztyn Golf Club House

If you are visiting the Lake District of Poland ( known in Poland as the Mazury region), then take your clubs and spend some time at this very pleasant course. There is a driving range, and a putting and chipping practice area. The Club House is very clean and bright. Everyone is so friendly and the young ladies working in the Club House can speak English and German!
